Creative Team

CreateWorks would not have existed without Braw Fox Theatre, and support from The Royal Academy of Engineering, The School of Engineering, and the creative leadership of Jo Rush, Amy McKenzie, Dave Fargnoli, and David Rush

The School of Engineering has a proud heritage of producing ground-breaking thinkers, inventors and leaders. We address diverse complex challenges across the entire field of engineering, at the micro- and macro/global scales. At the microscopic scale, our research supports the design and deployment of novel nanotechnology and devices for biological monitoring and medical diagnosis; at the macro/global scale, it optimises the security and sustainability of the built environment and develops engineering solutions to climate change issues. Representing the School of Engineering is Dr. David Rush, a Senior Lecturer in Structural Engineering within the Institute for Infrastructure and Environment.

For this project, the School has collaborated with Braw Fox Theatre, which is led by Amy McKenzie and Jo Rush. They specialise in creating new work with a strong track record of producing new writing at the Fringe, grassroots level, and on tour in Scotland. They seek to tell exciting stories inspired by and reflecting the human condition, producing new work by playwrights with something bold and urgent to say about the world. Joining the CreateWorks team as writer-in-residence is their long-term collaborator, playwright and theatre critic Dave Fargnoli, whose plays have premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and on tour at theatres such as the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh and the Tron Theatre, Glasgow, and whose writings as a critic can be read in The Stage and Exeunt magazine.

Our participants in the CreateWorks Project come from across all our research institutes and range from PhD students to PDRAs, Fellows and Lecturers. More information about our participant writers.

CreateWorks is made possible by the Royal Academy of Engineering’s Ingenious Award.

The Royal Academy of Engineering harnesses the power of engineering to build a sustainable society and an inclusive economy that works for everyone. In collaboration with their Fellows and partners, they are growing talent and developing skills for the future, driving innovation and building global partnerships, and influencing policy and engaging the public. Together they are working to tackle the greatest challenges of our age. The Ingenious programme offers grants of up to £30,000 to support creative public engagement with engineering projects while providing engineers with skills and opportunities to share their stories, passion and expertise with the public.
